Recently I received my Naarden Vesting photobook in which I bundled a couple of photographs that I took in my hometown Naarden, specifically the Vesting part which is about 15 minutes walking from my house. Naarden Vesting is a beautiful place with a lot of historic details but as usual I did not choose to portray it in the tourist-guide kind of way. As always I try to get to the essence of the matter by keeping an eye on irrelevant details. This way when portraying a place you run the risk of making the work too generic, a risk I am willing to take, hoping to be able to unfocus on the place so much that it starts to emerge by itself without me paying attention to “it”.
